Do you know the orange shirt kid from Fortnite? He was one of the winners of the Fortnite Boogie Down contest. Back in March 2018, about 8 months ago, Epic Games (the creator of Fortnite) had asked gamers to create their own dance and then post the video on Twitter and the best dance gets into the game. His video was one of the most ranked ones, like in the top 30, but was not picked the winner initially. But lot of people found his dance funny and somehow someone started this petition to include his dance in the game. So, Epic Games decided to include his dance in the game.
Well that was then and yesterday it was revealed that this orange shirt kid’s mom is suing Epic Games and Fortnite. She apparently thinks that Epic Games is using her sons dance without his consent even though he was the one that wanted his dance in the game.
All the tweets from her sons Twitter about the Boogie Down contest are now deleted. In those deleted tweets he was the one who wanted to participate in the contest and was clearly exited and not upset in anyway for his dance being in the game.
I personally think that this is just one big cash grab. She must have seen that other people were trying to sue Epic Games and she probably thought, why not try to take a piece of the cake. The lawsuit also states that the boy was getting cyber bullied to the point that he had to deactivate both his YouTube and Instagram accounts. Even if he was getting cyber bullied their is no reason to blame Epic Games for this. Just like everyone else, he entered the contest and he got lucky and had his dance got into the game. Also unlike most other dances in the game this one was free. You just had to earn it so Epic didn’t make any profit off his dance. It was just something they wanted to do for the Fortnight community.
This is really unfortunate and I personally feel that people should not unnecessarily sue big corporations to try and make some free money. This is just my personal opinion as a Fortnite fan. Well lets see what the court decides.
